September 2025 Newsletter

Hi Everyone,

Biodiversity is our strongest natural defence against climage change (United Nations Climate Action). About half of the greenhouse gases produced by human activities is absorbed by the land and ocean.

The widely reported recent finding of an Asian hornets' nest in Cork City, and the devastating impact this invasive species would have had on our native pollinators and food chain had it not been found, highlights the importance of biodiversity awareness in our everyday lives. The National Biodiversity Data Centre's "How to develop a Community Biodiversity Action Plan" provides guidance on how a community can design a comprehensive strategy to safeguard the biodiversity unique to its region.

Also in this month's newsletter, we bring you details of:
  • National Hedgerow Week 2025 - information on this initiative & details of events taking place.
  • Community Climate Action Programme (CCAP) Round 2 Funding Public Information Sessions (registration required). Learn how the fund can work for your community & receive guidance on how to prepare an application.
  • Duncormick Street Festival - 7th September, 2025 - a fun day-out for all the family.
  • Farming Climate Actions for September (Teagasc's Signpost Programme August 2025 Newsletter).
  • Wexford County Council Anti-Dumping Initiative 2025 - Mattress Amnesty. Opening  hours & locations of the Recycling Centres accepting mattress for recycling. Note: mattresses will be accepted from households only (no businesses). Restrictions apply.
  • A Free FoodCloud Event (registration required) - 23rd September, 2025 - Wexford Arts Centre. A collaborative event exploring how surplus food redistribution can build a stronger, fairer, and more sustainable food system in Wexford.
Lastly, before the evenings really draw in, we encourage you to visit a woodland/recreational forest to admire the palette of colour Autumn brings to these biodiverse-rich areas. Be sure to bring your wellies though; it is Ireland after all... 🙄☔
