• Teagasc's Signpost Programme November Climate Actions for the Farming Community. 
• The expanded Peatlands and Natura Community Engagement Scheme 2026. Applications are invited across a diverse range of initiatives with community benefit including education programmes, public amenity and recreational measures, anti-littering initiatives and more.
• A free nationwide workshop, hosted by the Rediscovery Centre and Lions Club Environment Team, bursting with quizzes, discussions, and interactive activities that bring climate science to life.
• An invitation to the launch of the Enniscorthy Community Biodiversity Action Plan. This Action Plan, prepared by ecologist Faith Wilson makes recommendations for Enniscorthy Tidy Towns, Wexford County Council and the wider community to take to improve biodiversity.
• A time lapse video showing the installation of a pond on the Poole family farm in Gorey with the aim of "slowing the flow" and enhancing biodiversity. Ponds and wetlands serve as diverse habitats for plants, insects, birds, mammals and amphibians, while also acting as natural water filters.
• Community Climate Action Programme (CCAP) Phase 2 - reminder re closing date.
• Congratulations to Enniscorthy Tidy Towns on winning a Gold Medal at the National Tidy Town Awards.

• €800,000 boost for peatlands and Natura sites available under the scheme
• Grants of up to €40,000 available for Natura 2000 designated sites
• Grants of up to €20,000 available for Non-Natura peatland sites

On 12th November, Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan TD  launched the call for applications for 2026 funding under the NPWS Peatlands and Natura Community Engagement Scheme.

Following an increase in applications in 2025, the amount of funding available for the scheme has increased by 25% to €800,000. 

The Peatlands and Natura Community Engagement Scheme aims to encourage local communities, organisations, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to actively contribute to the conservation and restoration of Natura 2000 sites and peatland areas. Natura 2000 sites are protected sites, including Special Protection Areas (SPA) for birds and Special Areas of Conservation (SAC) for habitats and species.

Activities/projects funded under the scheme will be subject to adherence with all relevant statutory requirements.

This Action Plan, prepared by ecologist Faith Wilson, focuses on the River Slaney Countryside Walk but includes wider recommendations for Enniscorthy Town. Many of these recommendations highlight actions we can all take to improve biodiversity locally.

The application window for Phase 2 of the Community Climate Action Programme is open until 5pm, Tuesday, 16th December, 2025.

The CCAP, which is funded by the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment (DCEE), aims to support and empower communities, in partnership with their Local Authority, to shape and build low carbon, sustainable communities in a coherent way to contribute to national climate and energy targets.

If your organisation meets the following criteria, it is eligible to apply for funding:

• Is a not-for-profit organisation
• Located in the operational area of Wexford County Council
• Registered with the PPN or
• Connected with another collective and/or a community group with Articles of Association or a Constitution and hold an AGM with approved minutes available

Wexford County Council has been allocated €669,000 for Phase 2 to fund relevant community projects that address some or all of the following five themes - Community Energy; Travel; Food and Waste; Shopping and Recycling; and Local Environmental Action.
